Elsewhere
05:45
|
|||
Another day begins and someone somewhere wins again
Whilst elsewhere in the rain they look as everyone walks by again.
I find it hard to see how this all came to be
How someone somewhere else could live so differently
How such a world as this could ever come to be.
How all this could ever come to be.
Another day goes by and someone somewhere tries to sleep at night
Whilst elsewhere in the rain they run from house to house in a firefight
And as you close your eyes unaware of all the lies that underpin our lives
Someone else's son is wondering what he's done with a fistful of knives.
Another day is through and still I don't know what I should do
For someone in the rain, perhaps I should just not walk by again.
Perhaps I should just try to keep my eyes wide open
And in some tiny way try to mend a bit of us that's broken.

Noise
05:24
|
|||
Someone flicked the switch
Someone left the door open
Someone lifted the lid
And let it out, and let it in.
So where can we point the finger,
Where can we steer the hunger,
Where can we put the anger,
When it was us, we let it in?
I can't bear to watch the news
And see that smug face air those views
That some here use as an excuse to abuse others
And I can't bear to hear that voice
Tell us this was all our choice
So we should rejoice - its all just noise to you and me!
What to do now where to go?
Gotta sit it out 'cause this is our show.
How to cope now, who to be?
Just gotta suck it up and wait and see.
We dropped our guard, we let it slip,
We got complacent so this is it,
We opened the door, we lifted the lid,
And let it out, and let it in.

Pick Up The Bill
04:30
|
|||
Hey! Yeah! We got it wrong.
We thought that it could never happen to us
That we were far too strong.
So we ate up everything that shared our world
And painted our banners which we then unfurled,
Staking our claim too be the only ones who cared here.
Hey! Yeah! We really screwed up.
We cut down the trees and killed the bees
And still we can't stop.
\these voices in my head are never wrong
They argue all the time about the things we've done
About the battles that were lost when they should have been won.
But while the sun still shines we'll go on making hay
And leave the price for someone else to pay.
Hey! Yeah! We really got it wrong.
We thought that it would never happen to us
That we were far too strong.
But then a tiny virus brought us all so low,
It stopped us in our tracks and cancelled the show,
And held up a mirror for some of us to see here.
But while the sun still shines we'll go on making hay
And leaving the price for someone else to pay.
Or will we look around and see what has been done here,
And make damn sure it doesn't happen anymore
For we are that someone who's got to pick up the bill (pay)
We've got to pick up the bill (and pay)
We've got to pick up the bill (and pay) now!

Try
04:48
|
|||
No-one really cares at all whether you rise or you fall,
All they really want to do is keep their life and live it through;
And so you see the problem here - do you live your life through your career
Or make the most of things and hope that its not all just some bad joke.
Just try....to do your best.
Try...to so your best.
It doesn't matter what they think of you, all that matters is what you do.
So try to make a little difference, then you can say in your defence
That whenever you were put to the test you always tried to do your best.
Its the only thing that's really true, and that us all that we can really do.
Just try...to do your best. Try...to do your best.
When you're put to the test you can only try to do your best.
When you're put to the test you can only try to do your best.
Just try...to do your best.
Try...to do your best.
Always try...to do your best.
Try...to so your best.

Still Here
04:28
|
|||
I'm still here, sitting by the window
Trying to watch the World go by
Except there's no-one there. I know
That sometime soon the phone will ring again
And then the children might be there
Smiling on the screen. Smiling on the screen.
But it's not what it seems to be
Because no-one else is really here with me.
It's like everyone has gone,
And I'm left alone with the phone for company.
So I'm still here. Sitting in this chair
Thinking of the times that have gone
When I could still touch someone, and I know
That soon the TV will bring a shadow of the World
Into this shrinking room. Into this shrinking room.
...and when all is said and done, do I really want to go on
If it's going to be like this? If its going to be like this?
I'm still here! I'm still here! I'm still here!
Sitting by the window, waiting for you.

Me
03:10
|
|||
This is me, trying so hard to see
Which way to go, and I don't know
What I should do.
What should I do?
'cause every time I try so hard not to lie to myself
It all comes back to me. This is not the way to be,
Or what I should do.
What should I do?
Sitting around and feeling tired
Drinking coffee and getting wired
Its time to think a different way.
Finding excuses for sitting here,
Watching TV and drinking beer,
Just got to get up and do something useful today.
So this is me just watching TV-
Or is it You Tube - I'm just trying to find the mood
And wondering what I could do.
What could I do?
Well, anything I wanted to,
As long as it's with you,
And that's where it all goes wrong
Because you're gone.

The View
04:10
|
|||
Up here on this hill the view changes day by day
As clouds come and go and the heat haze melts away.
But I know that the view may not be like this for you,
Because you can't see past the things that you're going through;
And so I'll say to you - just try to use your mind's eye
To imagine what you might see if you were up on high.
Up here on the hill the view changes constantly
And you would see it changing to if you were here with me.
Just close your eyes and let your mind fly high,
Then open them again and lift your face to the sky,
So you can be up here with me.

Fear Is My Strength
05:30
|
|||
Hold me close. Hold me tight,
Before I fall right through the night.
Oh, catch me please if I come down,
And hold me up in case I drown.
Because whatever you say, it's not true.
I could never, ever live without you.
You are the tightrope on which I stand,
The open arms in which I land.
My fear is my strength, my strength is the fear
That someday you may not be here
To hold me, to catch me, to save me one more time.
So I'm trying hard to stay up here
On this tightrope with my fear
As a strong companion, to see what can be done.
Because I don't want to fall off.
I don't want to take a dive.
I just want to do enough
For us both to stay alive.
My fear is my strength, my strength is the fear
That someday, one day, one of us may not be here
To hold you, to catch you, to save you just one last time.
Just one last time.

There
03:32
|
|||
There's no need to worry, no need to cry out
If you feel you're falling there's no need to shout
For wherever you are and whatever you do
I will always try to be there with you.
And if in the future you don't see me there
That is still no reason to feel any fear
For is I'm not present I'm sure to be near
And if I'm not there it just means I'm here.

What It Is
03:48
|
|||
Less a tarmac road past fields of new-mown hay
Than some dark forest's deeply [puddled pathway,
Each individual day is custom made for you
By chance and shadowed suits, and whatever others do,
From your own specific expectations,
Your hopes, your fears, your dead relations,
And the occasional patch of blindness
For that seductive sense of powerlessness.
More a forward stumble than a stately stroll
Towards some long-anticipated goal;
A think soup of moments that you swim through
With no sense of direction or clear overview.
It's existence pure and simple, to take or to leave,
And no poorer for it whatever you believe.
To fill those alternating hours of dark and light,
As you're pulled ever closer to that greater Night.
It is what it is.
It is what it is.

When The Quiet Came
07:44
|
|||
Someone, somewhere got it all so very wrong
And did something that let it in where it didn't belong
Whilst unaware we continue with our lives
As the viral load starts to rise.
It's time to dig on down, its time to hide!
Stay home! Protect each other! Save lives!
It doesn't really matter if you're old or young
There's a silent killer out there this pandemic has begun.
It doesn't really matter if you're old or young
There's a silent killer out there the pandemic has begun.
Our new future had begun.
And almost everything stops:
the offices, the factories, the pubs and the shops.
We stay in our houses and watch the TV
From the Government briefings its not hard to see
That as the statistics pile up on up
Its going to be a long time before this all stops.
But here and now beyond the doors and glass
the birds seem louder, the sky more blue,
the trees more robed in blossom than before.
But what about you? What about you?
Though separate now in self-confinement born of fear or love,
Whether held apart or thrown together, we do what we can do;
And henceforth may find our gaze brought much closer home
By these strange times so cruel, but so precious too.
But what about you?
We've got to pick up the bill...
